SECOND ANNUAL WRITERS DAY 5/1
Writers Day is a Writing Conference for kids. Students choose which workshop sessions they would like to attend. This year, our keynote speaker is MG/YA author Gary Schmidt (The Wednesday Wars, Okay for Now, Orbiting Jupiter).
We are looking for community members who write within their job requirements or for personal enrichment (and everything in between) to workshop with groups of 20-25 students in the morning.
The students bring a notebook and a pencil to your assigned classroom and learn something about writing--from you! Please forward this sign-up document to family and friends who may be able to help us.
Last year, we had community members lead sessions on food blogging, social media marketing, technical writing, advertising, personal journaling, writing for business, journalism, developing a script, historical research, legal writing, science fiction, and many other interesting topics.
You do not need to consider yourself a professional writer in order to participate.

MARCH 25TH 3:30pm - 5:30pm
UThon is a six-hour dance and dodgeball event that we hosted to raise money for Four Diamonds, a non-profit organization dedicated to researching cures for pediatric cancer and alleviating the financial burdens that families of children with cancer face. Last year, our event raised over $14,000, and we are hoping to enjoy similar success this year!
UThon will take place on Saturday, March 25th, elementary and middle school students and their parents are welcome from 3:30pm until 5:30pm. We would love for the younger students to come and cheer for our dodgeball teams, play games, and make cards for children with cancer. $5 per person is the cost for registration (all proceeds go directly to Four Diamonds). Donations are also appreciated. Help us reach our goal of $18,000.
Say It Like You Mean It Public Speaking Camp
Registration is officially open for the 2017 session of Say it Like You Mean It- Public Speaking Camp.
Being able to clearly articulate ideas can help set students up for success. This camp will help students of all experience levels develop these skills in a fun, encouraging environment. Students will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops that are designed to help build a foundation in several core areas that are critical to public speaking: research skills, presentation, argumentation and interpretation of literature.
Students attending the camp will work with me, Mrs. Julie Krause as well as several varsity members of our Speech and Debate team. Our staff is made up of 100% volunteers. All proceeds from the camp directly benefit the Speech and Debate Team.
Camp will run From Monday 7/31 to Thursday 8/3. There will be a morning session that runs from 8-11 as well as an afternoon session from 12-3. Registration is first-come, first-served. Space is limited. Your spot will not be reserved until tuition, medical form and permission slip are received.
Early Bird Registration (on or before 5/31): $125 for one session; $200 for both.
Late Registration (after 5/31): $150 for one session; $225 for both.
