EXPERIENCE WHAT'S GOING ON AT PATTON FIRSTHAND!

Stay connected to life at Patton. Volunteering with the PTO is a great way to meet other parents, Patton staff, and also to see what's going on at Patton Middle School!

Volunteer Opportunities for 2016-17:

  • Carnival Chair training (Jan-May) The carnival needs a few chairs to run our largest fundraiser of the year.  Take a year to learn the ropes and get trained this year to co-chair it the following year.

  • Talent Show Co-chairs(Mar/April) This show is student led and student ran. The talent show chair coordinates dates, practices, and is a figurehead to guide the kids.

There is something for everyone! Some events will need 2-3 Co-Chairs each! Grab a friend and volunteer together! To see the full list of committees and the descriptions click here. To learn more about these positions or getting involved in the PTO in general, contact Lynda Nadin at lynda.nadin@gmail.com

BOX TOPS CHALLENGE SUCCESS

More than 14,000 Box Tops were submitted by Patton Middle students this year.  After the expired Box Tops were tossed in the trash and the counting was completed, CFPMS earned more than $1300 during 2016-17, exceeding the goal of $1200. Don't forget to continue to clip Box Tops over the summer!

The grade winners of the Box Tops Challenge are...

6th grade: Mr. Baumgardner's advisory's submitted 509 Box Tops, but Mrs. Bunting's advisory came back after the final count to win the sixth grade contest with 547 Box Tops.

7th grade: Mr. O'Rourke's advisory and Mrs. Palic's advisory flip-flopped between first and second place all year. In the end, Mr. O'Rourke's students submitted 708 Box Tops, but that wasn't quite enough to over take Mrs. Palic's winning total of 752.

8th grade: No surprises in 8th grade as Mrs. Basilio's advisory held on to the top spot with 391 Box Tops.

Congratulations to the grade winners, who will be treated to an ice cream sundae party, and to the overall Box Tops challenge champion, Mrs. Palic's advisory.

PennDOT Engineers Present to Patton Middle School Technology & Engineering Students

Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation took the time to share their experience and expertise with the students in Mr. Palo's Technology & Engineering class last Thursday. Civil Engineer/Project Manager Leanne Fullard and Civil Engineer/Bridge Inspector Kevin Sutow shared information about the bridges in our area and information about what it is like to be a civil engineer. One of the key topics of discussion was the "Pocopson Bridge" replacement project at the intersection of route 926 & Pocopson road which will affect these students and 13,000 citizens daily.  The information and time that they shared is greatly appreciated by the students. Here are just a few of the comments that the students shared after the presentation.

"Something that I found very interesting about the civil engineer's presentation was that there are about 22,000 bridges in PA."

"I found it very interesting that much testing was needed for a bridge inspection and data collection from scuba diving to the foundation to the hydraulic engineering needed for flood safety."

"What I found to be interesting from the civil engineer's presentation was that there are people like Mr. Sutow who goes under the bridges after being built and work on the technology of it."

This special visit directly ties to the structural engineering unit found in Patton's award winning Technology & Engineering program. Mr. Palo commented..."I was thrilled when PennDOT agreed to honor my request to come and share their expertise with our students, for a learning connection was made that they will remember for the rest of their lives." This is an example of the impacts that businesses and other entities can make if they take the time to team up with their local schools to create more "real world" S.T.E.M. connections.
